'Leaders of Tomorrow'

"Uncle, I am going to be a leader tomorrow. My teacher told us in my class that we are the leaders of tomorrow" said my nephew. I smiled, knowing fully well that those are just empty words of a teacher who hope to raise the next President, Governor, Prime Minister, etc of tomorrow but in order to keep his (my nephew) hope alive, make him feel like a future leader and also not turn myself into a 'liar' that my teachers turned themselves into just by telling me these exact words back then. I wasted no time to make him see things not from the angle I saw it back then, but from the angle life has taught me to see things, so I replied him saying 'Yes! Your teacher is right! You are the leader of tomorrow. you are a man and first of all, you will need to lead yourself. Look at your dad for example, you will have to lead your own home someday just like your dad is the leader of his own family. Remember, your life might be the only bible someone else reads'. I made reference to the pilot who is the leader in the plane and also the captain of a ship who is the leader of the ship and everything that finds its way into it. I also used the referee on the football pitch as an example, he rules the game, he controls the players and his decisions on the pitch of play are final and binding but I guess these aint the kind of leaders they talked about in class.

In my mind, my reply was 'which kain leader? My own generation is yet to take the mantle of leadership and here we are, you are talking about yours'.
But seriously, I think the generations before mine have failed us in Nigeria, we have moved from the colonial era to the civilian era, down to the military era and back to the civilian era, yet things aint getting any better. We still have same set of people that ruled while my parents where in their youthful days contesting elections, why?
I think the words of our teachers back then somehow found its way into our heart and 'we' maybe consciously or unconsciously have decided to wait for 'Tomorrow'. We somehow believed that once 'Tomorrow' is here, the mantle of leadership will be passed down to us, so we decided to remain silent and patiently wait for tomorrow (our time).
Someone once said, "Our teachers told us that 'We are the leaders of tomorrow'. Its either our teachers lied to us or tomorrow is yet to come"
Words are very strong, especially the ones planted in a kid while growing up. These words 'You are the Leaders of tomorrow' made me join the school of thought that believed that once tomorrow is here, the leadership baton will be handed over to us (my generation) but as I grew older, I have learnt that things will never be available today, you have to wait for tomorrow and this made me realised that tomorrow does not exist, today is the only chance you've got.
In all, I have been made to understand that we need to fight our way up the ladder but the battle is not to be fought with Guns, bows, bombs and arrow but with wisdom, actions, courage, transparency and a God fearing heart.
Remember that a Good Leader is known not by his position but by his actions and influence on his subordinates and those around him.

How to connect a computer to the internet using a Blackberry phone as a modem

You can make a dial-up connection by using your BlackBerry phone as a modem. You can connect your BlackBerry to your computer and connect to the internet through the BlackBerry Internet Service.
This can be done by either using the bluetooth dial-up profile if the phone and the computer supports this, or with the USB cable.

Note: The steps herein are for BIS subscribers only, BES subscriber can make a request for their own settings by either sending me a mail or by dropping a comment under this post.

 Requirements

  • Install the latest BlackBerry Desktop Manager. The drivers that allow the BlackBerry to communicate through the USB port and virtual COM ports are installed. The Standard Modem, which is used by dial-up networking, is also installed.
  • Make sure that you can use the internet browser on the BlackBerry itself.
The following illustrates the steps in Windows XP with Service Pack II to use the BlackBerry as a tethered modem via USB. Successfully tested with the BlackBerry Bold, BlackBerry Torch, BlackBerry 9800, BlackBerry 8820, BlackBerry 9780, BlackBerry 9520, BlackBerry 8700, BlackBerry 8330, BlackBerry 9300, BlackBerry 9650, BlackBerry Storm, BlackBerry Pearl.

First, Start the BlackBerry Device Manager and connect your BlackBerry with the USB cable.
On installing the Desktop Manager, the Standard Modem will appear in the Device Manager as follows:
(If the Standard Modem does not appear, re-install the Desktop Manager.)

If the Standard Modem still does not appear, it is necessary to manually add the modem.
Take note of the COM port numbers of the RIM Virtual Serial Port v2 in the devices under Ports (COM & LPT).
Virtual Serial Port

In the Control Panel go to Phone and Modem Options.
Choose to add a New Modem.
Choose to select it from a list.

Go to the Diagnostics tab.
Click on Query Modem. It should answer with a number of responses.

Etisalat:+cgdcont=1,"IP","internet"
UK Vodafone:+cgdcont=1,"IP","internet"
T-Mobile NL:+cgdcont=1,"IP","internet","",0,0
This completes the installation of the modem.
Now the dial-up connection has to be made.

Note: You need to replace "IP" and "internet" with their true variables.

NOTE: If after successful connection of the blackberry phone to your computer as a modem, you are still unable to surf the net, you may need to contact your service provider to enable the 'web APN' settings for your phone.

Errors
Here are some known errors that may appear when dialing the connection:

Error 734 BlackBerry

Error 651 BlackBerry

"Error 651: The modem (or other connecting device) has reported an error."Error 651

My Pain: How I was fooled by an Okada Man!

As we all know, April 1st is the worlds fools day and if anything is worthy of posting today, it has to be no other but my ordeal in the hands of an okada man who 'fooled' me.
Stepping out of my house, I planned on visiting a friend whom I have not seen for 3yrs now. After stopping two bikes, I stopped a third one who said he will take me to my destination but on getting to a place which later turned out to be 'Okota New site', the bike man stopped in front of an uncompleted building, I asked him what happened and all he could say was 'sssshhhhh! As you don wear the helmet, na me dey control u and na anywhere I carry u go be the place wey u dey go'.
Instantly, I felt I was under a spell but all of a sudden I jumped off the bike and started running back towards where we came from, fortunately or should I say unfortunately for me, I saw a branch of UBA bank which I ran into. I was stopped by a security man who asked me where I was running to with an helmet on my head but before I could say a thing, the bike man came, started laughing and shouting 'APRIL FOOL'. Without knowing what the 'fool' was all about the securities couldn't hold themselves, they busted out laughing and one of them asked if that was the reason I decided to run away with his helmet.
In my entire life, noting has ever gotten to me like this before, I hope I recover from it soon and I hope u do too.

HaPpY Fools Day!! YOU HAVE JUST BEEN FOOLED!!!
