30 Day Challenge: Day 6

Day 6: My Views On Mainstream Music

"Music heals your body, music heals your soul, music makes you happy..." says Omawunmi's lyrics and I must say I quiet agree with her cos music has been my companion ever since I knew there was something called music.
Music for me has been a large part of the man I've become and aside the fact that it makes me happy, one way or the other, I have found myself in that same situation depicted in a song. This has lead me to define music as life.
By mainstream music, we mean the generally accepted songs in the society. Those popular songs usually on the TopTen countdown. I won't be talking about artist today but I will sure talk about their songs.
Though, it won't be easy to talk about my views on mainstream music without ranting but I will try my best not to bore you guys too much so I will just use some few songs and we're done!
Before I go ahead, I will like to thank artist like 2Face, even though he's got this 'Implication' song, he's got so many other meaningful and interesting songs, songs such as Rain Drops, Only Me, etc. Also, Asá is one artist I respect a lot. She has being making good, quality and 'lyrically' upright songs right from her very first album. Talk about Jailer, 360 degrees, The Place to be, Be my man, etc. Ok, enough of the praises. Now to the business of the day #MovingOn
Pakurumo: <----- this song right here sounds more like the kindda songs the likes of Saheed Osupa aka SaridonP, Shanko Rasheed and Iyabo Osanle started with. How did I know? Am simply razz and am not just razz, am razz to the core! And you know what, 'emi oni fi owo osi juwe ile baba mi' #GoFigure. Don't AXE your mummy else you will rotten in jail, simply watch me closely. Pakurumo falls in the genre of songs I call O.O.O (Orin Omo Oloku) don't even ask me what this means, use your lifeline, hem.......ask a friend.
Oleku: Wow! This song is at it again but I just can't place what this song is all about. They were just blabbing and talking sh!t while listeners are consuming it hook, line and sinker. Maybe it didn't work for me cos I like songs I can relate with, songs I can make use of when talking and not just songs that will make me jump up and scatter my dada.
Maybe I should just say this, if it can't be hyped and its not a club banger, it seems not to be in the mainstream music category.
Some few days ago, someone said an artist tried cos almost all his songs are club bangers but I will like to ask you one question, just one question and that question is 'When dancing, what do you dance to?'. Do you dance to the lyrics of the song or you flow with its beat? If you ain't sure, ask a DJ. If you like a song cos of its beat, please stop pouring all the accolades on the artist, the producer owns it all and in fact, artists ask for dance beats from producers and then try working on it to come out with songs they believe will give them that desired street credibility. They end up saying arrant nonsense just to flow with the beat.
My view is simply that mainstream music, is being influenced by the hype they get and in the first instance, they are not worthy to be called a song cos most times if not always, they makes no-sense and are always not lyrically upright or who among you will want his/her kids to listen to or sing along to songs like Ori e o foka sibe or is it Axe yor momi awon eleyi won badt gan.

Ok, am done! #MovingOn

it's no doubt dat Naija main stream sucks, just try listening to "Akpako master".... but all mainstream songs are not exactly like that. I can really relate my konjition to a lot of them like The Black Eyed Peas "Just Can't Get Enough"
